The Little Stitching Bag

A few weeks ago I received the most gorgeous fabric from Moda. Lilac Hill is the name designed by Brannock and Patek. I just loved the little birds on this fabric and couldn't wait to use them so I have made a cute little draw cord bag with matching needle book and pincushion.

The kit is available for $27 plus p/h  and contains, pattern, pre cut fabric, ribbon and DMC thread. The bag is big enough to fit the needle book, pincushion, threads and all your other sewing necessities.

3 faces of "Evie"

Its amazing how we imagine things differently to one another. And isn't that wonderful because it would be a boring old world it we didn't.
My quilt pattern "Evie" just came to me without too much thought, it was the fabric that told me what to do. I had really wanted to make the pieced block using pink fabric for quite a while, and then when I saw the range of fabrics from Julie Wallace and Yuwa I knew I was on the right path.
I have used needle turn applique for the orange peel blocks. The rest of the quilt is machine pieced and hand quilted. The result (I think) is a pretty and soft to the touch girlie quilt.

During the weekend of the Eastwood quilt show, Marijke was telling me how much she liked my Evie quilt and had bought the pattern from me at last years Darling Harbour quilt show. The quilt is now finished and she had changed the pattern to utilize the quilt as you go method. This suited Marijke to make the quilt this way as it allowed her to quilt with smaller blocks rather than having one large quilt to contend with.

I just love the colours that she has chosen and oh how different to mine it is. Just wonderful Marijke.

And the back is just a pretty.

My friend Kim also loved the quilt but didn't like my pieced blocks. So Kim decided to use the Jacob's ladder block instead. And what a great result. I just love the warm shades of browns, creams and reds. Really are my colours.

So the moral of the story is Take a Chance, don't be frightened to have a go and change a pattern to suit yourself. If when you have finished and you love it then it was all worth the risk. If not then use the experience as a learning curve for the next time.

Images of Eastwood quilters 2011

Finally I have found the time to show you some images of the quilts and people of the Eastwood quilt show 2011. Just enjoy the images as I dont always have the information for each one.

Jenny Burton was there with her wonderful array of antique and vintage quilts.

Kathy and Bundle from Material Obsession were also there to share in the fun of the weekend. (Thanks ladies for some funny episodes!)

I just love this scrappy quilt. The stars are made up of many triangles.
And time for one more!

Thank you again ladies of Eastwood quilt group for inviting me to attend your show. I had the most enjoyable weekend of fun and laughter and you all need a pat on the back for your hard work.

A helping hand

We can all do with a helping hand sometimes and that doesnt just mean with making the dinner or washing up (boring)! I am lucky to have a husband that does these things as well as other boring jobs for me when I am really busy with sewing projects that just need to get finished.
Husbands who are not sewers but have skills that we patchworkers need also come to the rescue.

Take Sue's beautiful quilt. Not only does her husband draft the quilting pattern but he removes the glass sliding doors from within their home, takes them outside and and elevates them, places here quilt top over them and then traces the quilting design on for her. WOW! how's that?

Sue has quilted the darker setting triangles with shashiko quilting and the result is just spectacular.

You can see in this image those wonderful even stitches.

Maxine is always busy sewing and bought along her very big elongated hexagon quilt to show everyone. This design was originally made by Lucy Boston of England. Every inch is hand pieced and thats maxine on the left.

My own quilt is still in the "box" unfinished....oh well one day perhaps!

Until next time

A busy day

Welcome,
Did any of you get to the Eastwood Quilters show at Brush Farm at Eastwood over the weekend?
If you did then you would have been very richly rewarded with the wonderful quilt exhibition and the fabulous old home that was the venue.
I am always left feeling wonderfully happy that I am also a quilter when I see such diversity of work from  this very talented group of ladies.
The show was visited by over 2000 people (and Counting) which is evidence of how popular this bi annual show is . I will be busy stitching and creating over the coming weeks just to replenish my stocks with new creations.

You can follow images of this exhibition on my BLOG over the coming weeks as well as preview new projects that I will be working on.
